Constantia’s wine became famous for being a preferred of Napoleon Bonaparte’s while in exile on the Island of Saint Helena, and was well known by various royalty in Europe. This is the where wine was first cultivated in South Africa, and was home to the first Governor of The Cape Colony. Itinerary

Full Day - PrivateConstantia and Southern Suburbs

Tour the historical region of Constantia, passing the the original farm of the first commander of the Cape, and area of the first “Free Burghers”, where bishops and world leaders have made their home.

Visit the homestead of the first Governor of the Cape, touring the cellar and historical buildings, while tasting its produce of world famous wines, mentioned by Jane Austin, and savoured by the likes of Napoleon Boneparte and King Louis Phillippe of France. Learn of the unique woman such as Catharina Ras of Steenberg, Anna de Koningh, Lady Anne Barnard, and Dr. Barry that played their part in early colonial South African History in the Constantia region.

This green and leafy region of greater cape Town, not only showcases some of South Africa’s Cape Baroque style art and architecture, but also is home to the Norval foundation, an art gallery of world class standards. Constantia is a must for any foodie and wine connoisseur.
