Activities with mans best friend around Cape Town

Man’s best friend; “Canis lupus familiaris”, or more commonly, “The domesticated dog”. Just the thought of them before returning home from day out evokes feelings of love and affection, well for me at least. Okay so perhaps I take it a bit extreme by allowing ours to sleep in the bed. None the less if you do have one of these companions in your household there’s no better activity with family, or on your own, then hitting the road or a trail with them.

One of my favourite activities is to either take our Weimaraner on some of the nearby trails and nature reserves in and around the Western Cape. Just bear in mind that when doing this for yourself that you have taken care of the legalities by paying for the respective licence that allows such activities. For more information click on the link below that will take you to the SANPARKS website. https://www.sanparks.org/parks/table_mountain/tourism/access-cards-permits.php#permits

Some of my favourite spots to run is in the Newlands Forest, Silvermine, and Lower Tokai region, and every now and then along the Muizenberg or Kalkbay walkway traversing some of the beaches. Another favourite of mine is to visit the Winelands region and run through some of the farms that grant access to visitors with dogs, you may need to ensure your dog is leashed and on a harness where necessary, respecting the environment and other day visitors.
